Both books are multiauthored comprehensive textbooks of geriatric medicine. Both fulfill the promise of providing in-depth information about the diseases and care of older persons in a wide variety of health care settings. Both textbooks are well organized and paginated.

The excellent organization of both texts is their real strength as approaches to the care of older persons specific to many different settings are highlighted. Each book defines a similar but slightly different audience. Hazzard targets specifically fellows in geriatric medicine, in addition to geriatric specialists and practicing physicians.

E-books for medical students

Reichel is aimed at primary care physicians, especially family practitioners, in addition to geriatric specialists. The result is a more subjective tone in the text rather than specific content.

Each follows a slightly different format for presentation of geriatric syndromes and illness. Riechel follows a systemic approach to medical care in older adults, whereas Hazzard is organized into geriatric syndromes and organ systems.

Medical (Academic) Books

Both volumes begin with a general overview of medical care in older persons. Both textbooks fulfill a specific need in geriatric training. There is really no other good comprehensive source for an overview of certain specific areas of geriatric medicine.

Physicians and fellows with little experience outside of hospital settings will find the discussion of nursing home care, community care settings, and end-of-life care settings invaluable introductions to this important area of geriatric care. Both textbooks introduce models of care of older adults and address ethical issues and end-of-life care unique to this population.

There are many different sizes of this classic tablet as well, so pick one that will be convenient to bring to class or fit in your lab coat. Again, tablets pose the issue of being distractions as much as helpers. However, with the iPads note-taking software, it becomes very competitive for other reasons than simply being an e-reader.

It seems the vast majority of students now have some experience with this device or have an iPhone , so no need to go into great detail.

The Votes Are In As far as the best e-reader for medical school, it ultimately comes to what your personal needs are. If budget is a concern, it is much more affordable to go into the site family than iPads.

Depending on where you live, there may be a significant second-hand market as well, which can make any option more affordable for a student on a tight budget. Although the Paperwhite is great for some leisure reading, it is not the best option for school texts. And you may find that you do not have much time for leisure reading during medical school but make time if you can!

Best e-Reader for Medical School: site vs iPad

The Fire is definitely a decent runner-up. However, the limitations on file size make this a no-go in my book.

If you can find a way around this, it would make a much better e-reader for medical school.
